How to Make a Magic Door Block – Mini Block Monday #14

What is a Magic Door Block? Where will it lead? If you enjoyed listening to the first chapter in Mally the Maker and the Queen in the Quilt during last week’s podcast, you’ll know this is a very special quilt block indeed!

Do you know what helps me the most? Sharing the video! Please share this video with your quilting friends, or even consider including the photos in your guild newsletter. I would LOVE that!

Looking for a pattern for the Magic Door quilt block? It’s all in the video! I’m trying something new with these Mini Block Monday videos and including all the information in the video itself. Just hit “pause” when you need to and write down the pieces to cut.

Is that just not your thing? Here’s a snapshot of the patchwork pieces to get you started:

Magic Door Block Piecing Instructions

This block is pieced by adding strips around the magic door rectangle. This is a lot like a Log Cabin or Courthouse Steps block.

The nice thing is there are no triangles or funky units to piece! Just stitch around the door with your sets of pieces and in no time your magic door will be finished.

But don’t forget to sew on a tiny button on the side. You can’t enter the door unless there’s a door knob to twist and enter!

And here’s what it looks like when you finish piecing this mini Magic Door quilt block!
