Piece a Churn Dash Block – Mini Block Monday #1

It’s time for our very first Mini Block Monday and I’m piecing a Churn Dash block! This is one of my favorites because it’s so simple, but has lots of fun variations depending on how you place the colors.

Looking for a pattern for this Churn Dash block? It’s all in the video! I’m trying something new with these Mini Block Monday videos and including all the information in the video itself. Just hit “pause” when you need to and write down the pieces to cut.

Is that just not your thing? Here’s a snapshot of the patchwork pieces to get you started:

The only other tricky bit is the half square triangles placed in the four corners of the Churn Dash block. Click Here to find a more detailed tutorial on piecing half square triangles.

You’ll want to trim these down to measure 1 1/2-inches square before piecing with the rest of your units.

And here’s what it looks like when you finish your Churn Dash quilt block!

Hi Leah! I am wondering if you plan to carry the print version of How to Piece Perfect Quilts again? I prefer books to pdf files, however, if you don’t have plans to reprint, I will purchase the file. Thank you ?

Wonderful Anita! For Mini Block Monday I am not writing patterns for each block. Instead you can watch the video to find the instructions. I am working on a book of the 50 blocks we will piece together in 2020, and I hope to have the preorder ready for that in a month or so.
