How to Piece an On Point Heart – Mini Block Monday #6
We’re stitching it up a notch today with an On Point Heart Quilt Block. Shocking admission – I’ve never made an On Point quilt. Maybe I should do something about that and make a whole quilt of cute On Point Hearts!
Looking for a pattern for this On Point Heart Block Pattern? It’s all in the video! I’m trying something new with these Mini Block Monday videos and including all the information in the video itself. Just hit “pause” when you need to and write down the pieces to cut.
Is that just not your thing? Here’s a snapshot of the patchwork pieces to get you started:
This block is basically following the steps to making a Square in a Square Unit. This unit is a bit tricky to piece because you do have to work with real triangles (unlike Half Square Triangles where you can use squares to make the shapes). Just be sure to starch your fabric two times before cutting to make the triangles to stop them from stretching as you piece!
You’ll also need to trim the finished On Point Heart block down to the final 3 1/2-inch size. Make sure to trim a tiny bit off each side so the block has even seam allowance on all sides.
And here’s what it looks like when you finish your On Point Patchwork Heart!

How to Piece a Churn Dash Block
hi Leah – this is the cutest block! To make it easier for me, I enlarged the individual squares in the nine-patch to 3″. It turned out beautifully. The quilt became a birthday present for a friend turning 82. Thank you for the pattern and the inspiration to make it!
Wonderful Carol! I’m so happy you enjoyed it!
