My King Sized Quilting Adventure

This spring I tackled a big challenge – quilting a king sized quilt on my king sized longarm frame. This might not sound like a challenge, particularly in comparison to quilting a king on a home sewing machine, but I think a king quilt is always a big deal, no matter what kind of machine you’re quilting on.

King Sized Tapestry Quilt

Josh and I wanted a new king sized quilt and for this quilt to be simple, but very creative. I had a purple tapestry saved from college and decided that was the perfect centerpiece for this quilt. Using a variety of techniques, I turned the edges and mounted the tapestry onto a backing fabric, then pieced on two borders.

Adventure in Longarm Quilting Techniques

This definitely was a king-sized quilting adventure! I played with so many different techniques – free hand free motion quilting, ruler quilting, and challenged myself to use computerized quilting in a whole new way.

Here’s a little peek at how I quilted the corners using my new favorite ZoYo design, but edited with Quilter’s Creative Touch Pattern Eclipse so it quilted into the irregular corner space I’d created perfectly.

My favorite part of this quilting adventure was finishing a king sized quilt in two months. Honestly, it was so nice finishing this quilt in months rather than years.

Did you enjoy hearing about this quilting adventure? Let me know in the comments how you quilted your last king sized quilt and how long it took to finish!

Let’s go quilt,
