Piece a Card Trick Quilt Block – Mini Block Monday #13

I picked the perfect block for our 13th mini – Card Trick! This tricky block features nine different units and really takes some brain power to piece. Make sure to label your fabrics so you know what order they should go in – you’ll see why in this quilting tutorial:

Card Trick Quilt Block Piecing Units

There is a bonus extra block you can create from the leftover units from your first block. Here’s the additional cutting you will need if you make a second Card Trick block:

Card Trick Piecing Instructions

You’re going to first make Hourglass Squares to create the center of your Card Trick block. Click Here to find a tutorial on Hourglass Squares.

You’ll also create a mess of Half Square Triangles. Click Here to find a more detailed tutorial on piecing half square triangles.

The trickiest unit is a set of Quarter Square Triangles because you have to make sure the units are stacked with the correct fabrics. Click Here to find a tutorial on piecing Quarter Square Triangles.

ALL of your units will need to be trimmed before piecing them together in the Card Trick block. Trim all units to measure 1 1/2 inches square.
