Love these vintage style blocks and what a terrific way to use up scraps. Still not comfortable fmq yet but really enjoy the practice I’m getting just cutting and sewing the blocks. I have made myself a scrap book to hold my collection of success (and failures) and I can see the progress that I have made in my first short year of sewing. It’s harder than it looks just sewing a straight line. Maybe one day I go back and finish the Building Blocks quilt that I started.

That’s wonderful to hear Sonia! Machine quilting takes a lot more practice so just try to quilt a little bit every day. That will help build your skills and keep your quilting ability at the same level as your piecing ability.

Thank-you for the advice. I try and sew a little every day but had not thought to quilt. It makes sense. I guess I should go make myself a bunch of sandwiches and practice different quilting styles, probably starting with your walking foot book and get comfortable before becoming more adventurous fmq. I enjoy listening to your podcasts, we have nothing like this here in Quebec. Have a good day.

Hey Leah! I decided to try one of your mini blocks and picked this one because I wanted to use only 2 fabrics to start with. Holy Moly….that’s tiny! It didn’t turn out too bad. I think my points are better than they look because they are sort of in the fold (used thicker fabrics and they didn’t lay flat. These will be good practice and fun to try new block patterns!
