Mally the Maker – Chapter 3 – Podcast #139

This week I’ve recorded Chapter 3 from Mally the Maker and the Queen in the Quilt. This is one of my favorite chapters from the book because a certain special person comes alive and starts talking!

Listen to the podcast or download it to your computer using this player:

Jump straight to the audiobook at time: 32:12

Also jump straight to the basement tour to see what we’ve fixed and finished (not much) and what is still ripped up (almost everything): 8:13

Learn more about Mally the Maker here. I’m going to share 1 chapter a week and then begin writing the second book in this series!

You can also make Ms. Bunny! I grew up with a doll like this and loved her dearly. It was a delight to include her in the book and recreate the pattern based my my memory of her size and shape. Yes, I’m working on more doll patterns coming soon.

You can now piece a Magical Door block. As you will find in this chapter of the book, this particular door is very special! Make sure to add a mini button so your grandkids can twist it and escape into the world of Quilst.

Other Quilting Tutorials Shared this Week

Click Here to learn how to quilt Feathers with rulers! I absolutely love this design and how easy it is to quilt this shape with the Feather Ruler. These feathers perfectly finished off the double petals in our Dream Big Quilt.

Click Here to find the tutorial on Chain of Beads – This design combines quilting with a curving ruler with fun free motion quilting to create a beautiful texture for your quilt. If you want to add a touch of elegance, and you don’t mind taking a bit of time to do it, Chain of Beads is a terrific design choice!

Click Here to find the free face mask pattern. I’ve updated the PDF a second time to include a child size, and frequently asked questions about washing and filters. Since construction respirators have sold out, I’m using a homemade mask now as I rebuild my basement.

I’m delighted to announce, I’m now a Janome Dealer! Click Here to find the new machines we’re carrying in our quilt shop. I’m planning to share new videos on these machines over the summer. I’m really looking forward to designing new projects to stitch and quilt to showcase these machines and teach you how to use them.

I’m also teaching at Quilt Canada 2020 this fall. This show was rescheduled from June to the first week in September and I’m teaching three classes at this show. So if you live in Canada and would like to learn about longarm quilting, come take a class with me!

So excited for you that you’re now selling Janome. I have the Janome Magnolia 7330, that I take with me when I sew with friends, and the Janome Memory Craft 6600P, that I keep set up at home. I really love both machines, and I love that all my attachments are interchangeable between the two. My sister has another big brand name machine and all the attachments for her machine are so expensive. I will probably always have Janome machines. I’ve been making lots of masks with your pattern. I did end up adding a slot for the pipe cleaner so it could be removed before washing and so I could replace it when it gets really wonky. Thanks for all that you do! I really appreciate you! Best of luck with everything!
