This has been a week of ripping out and assessing damage. My daily work attire has gotten a bit more complicated:

Leah Day Basement Flood

Yes, we’re being very careful and safe. I take my family and my health seriously, but I don’t believe you have to hire a professional to rip up carpets, walls, or floors. I estimate we’ve saved around $10,000 in the past week by doing this work ourselves.

Help support us through this flood!

Click Here to find the Waterfall Bargello Workshop on sale for $9.99. All orders from our quilt shop directly help us pay for repairs. This week I found the longarm room did get some water, which lead to the kitchen cabinets being gutted and another wall removed. *Sigh*

Make what you want nowI kind of forgot to share this week’s blocks and designs! Sorry, it’s really hard to keep a clear head on everything right now.

Click Here to find the Super Scrappy Heart Tutorial. This one takes scraps to a new level!

Click Here to learn how to quilt Swirling Hearts. I really love this texture and found it was a terrific practice design for feathers too.

And another way you can help support us is to join our Quilt Friends Club. Club members get access to exclusive videos and Mini Block Project patterns each month, as well as a weekly precut giveaway!

Okay, now that we’ve nearly finished tearing out the basement, it’s time to turn our attention outside to figure out exactly what is wrong with the yard to create our flooding issue. Looks like it’s time to get muddy!

Let’s go quilt,

Sorry to hear about the damages due to the heavy rain. I’m hoping that you are assessing what can be done outside the house – to prevent or lessen the chances of flooding should heavy rain occur again. Do you have downspouts/gutters that carry the water away from the home? Is some landscaping needed that sends the water away from the home? Climate change is occurring and where I live is now having high water levels and flooding more frequently. Your remodel plans sound great, I just don’t want you have to go through flooding again.

It seems this was caused by a lot of landscaping problems and gutter issues. We’re replacing and fixing the gutters and resloping the ground to run water away from the house. It’s crazy how small things can add up and cause huge issues. The chickens digging holes in the yard and against the house didn’t help! Who would have thought such a small thing could have such big effects!

Oh, Leah I so feel your pain considering the flood as we went through the same a few years ago. It’s heartbreaking but fixable just expensive & a real pain. So glad you are slowly recovering. I just wanted to give you a shout out to say I am so sorry you and your family had to go through that. I have been a faithful fan for a very long time, not really a person who leaves comments but wanted to let you know I have learned so much from you over the years & do appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
    Sincerely,
    dee

Thank you Dee! I really appreciate you taking the time to share this sweet comment with me! Yes, you’re right. This has mostly been a big giant pain!
