Renovation Finished! Quilting Studio Tour 2020 – Podcast #140

Yes, our renovation is finally finished and I’m celebrating with a new tour of my quilting studio! It has been a very long, very difficult six months. I am very happy with our new space and even more happy to be getting back to quilting.

If you’d like to see just how much things have changed in the past six months, you can see the “before” version of this studio tour too. This was shared in January 2020, one month before the basement flooded:

A lot has changed! We finally have a beautiful, bright basement that is a pleasure to work in. I have left some small details (like painting trim boards) for later and that will be fun to tackle when I feel that craving for home renovation again (definitely not any time soon!).

Just in case you’re wondering about the machines I shared in this podcast:

Janome Horizon 8200 – This is my current piecing and prep work machine. I absolutely love the variety of feet and hundreds of decorative stitches to play with. LOTS of tutorials will be coming on this machine either in 2020 or 2021.

Janome 1600 – I’ve moved this straight stitch home sewing machine to my Q-Zone Hoop Frame. While the quilting space is small, the high speed is ideal for frame quilting! I’m looking forward to sharing new videos on quilting on a hoop frame with a home sewing machine.

Qnique 21 on a Continuum Frame – My big daddy longarm made it through the renovation just fine (just a bit dusty). I’m planning to expand my frame by another 2 feet to take it up to 12 feet long, but that will wait until I actually have a king sized quilt needing to be loaded!

That’s it for this podcast! I hope you enjoyed seeing the finished basement and studio. It is a pleasure to come downstairs and work in the studio or office and it’s even more delightful to no longer be renovating!

Let’s go quilt,

Leah Day

  1. I love your revamped sewing space – what a great area to spend so much time in, And you totally deserve a gorgeous bath tub like that; enjoy making use of it! Have you tried rubbing a candle over the runners/drawer edges of your antique cabinets to help smooth the movements as you pull the drawers in and out? Has always worked for me on my old wooden dresser. Have a super week!
