Ruler Quilting with a Walking Foot?

Today I’m doing something crazy: I’m echo ditching and ruler quilting using a walking foot! I don’t have a guide for my walking foot so using a ruler against the side helped me space out some lines and evenly space the design. See what I mean in this quilting tutorial:

I decided to echo ditch because echoing really makes the edges of the bear’s claw design pop. Also, if you wobble outside the ditch a little bit, no biggie! The only concern is when turning corners so mark some guidelines to help you know when to stop and pivot the block.

I don’t think you can use a walking foot for curvy ruler quilting, but straight line ruler quilting was absolutely fair game! We do offer a low shank ruler foot if you’re into curvy ruler quilting. Click Here to check out our ruler foot.

I hope you enjoyed this walking foot / ruler foot mash-up and are having fun quilting your Bear’s Claw block. Next Monday we’ll be hopping on the longarm and frame to do another round of quilting on this month’s block.

Let’s go quilt,

Leah Day
