How to Piece the Hidden Hearts Block
To make the Hidden Hearts Quilt Block, you first need to piece a mess of units. Click Here to find a tutorial on piecing Half Square Triangles. You will need lots of half square triangles, both plain to piece into this block, and to piece together to make Hourglass Squares
Click Here to find a tutorial on piecing Hourglass Squares. You will need to be careful making these squares because you need THREE types – some made from all scrappy triangles, some made with half scrap and half background, and some made with lots of scrap and only a little bit of background.
Don’t worry, this all makes perfect sense in the Block 12 and 13 quilt pattern!
Take your time piecing these units, then arranging them first to create the center of the block, then the borders. All told, this block has over 200 pieces!
This block is a terrific piecing challenge if you’re wanting to build new skills and experiment with your piecing techniques. It would make a beautiful scrappy pillow cover if you’re not needing to make it for the Friendship Sampler Quilt Along.
Remember, you only need to make Hidden Hearts if you’re making a king or queen size quilt. Tomorrow we’ll finish up with the last quilting video for the Friendship Quilt Along on how to quilt Hidden Hearts on a home machine.
Let’s go quilt,
