Last Day in the Closet with the Goddess Quilt Book
Okay… that’s a weird title, but it’s very true! I’ve been recording the audio for Leah Day’s Goddess Quilts in my bedroom closet. LOL!
Today is the last day for this book and depending on how my voice sounds, I may jump straight into narrating Mally the Maker and the Queen in the Quilt too.
While Leah Day’s Goddess Quilts is a super visual book, I decided to narrate it because it would be great practice for other books. Now having read it, I think non-fiction narration is harder than fiction. I couldn’t do voices or anything fun so I’m looking forward to really playing up my voice with Mally the Maker.
I absolutely love audiobook narration, but it’s very hard. I find I can talk for about 2 hours and then my voice is shot for the day. I just sound too tired to continue. I’ve also learned I can’t perk myself up with coffee or hot tea. The caffeine in both drys out my mouth completely. Talk about a catch 22!
But audio is my thing and I’m willing to work for it. I’ve been listening to audiobooks since I was a little girl, and I really love being read to. I never thought I could be the reader too, but then a few years ago I started learning more about audio and recording. Eventually I realized, yes, I can do that too!
I’ve gotta say, we are living in an amazing time!
I learned how to turn my bedroom closet into a recording booth thanks to an online workshop. I found a digital recorder that didn’t break the bank and I was able to rent mics until I found the right combination to create high quality sound.
In what other time could I do all of this on my own, with no publishing gate keepers and mind blowing studio expenses? I’m feeling so grateful for this amazing time we’re living in right now. We can create ANYTHING we want!
Let’s go create,
Leah Day
