Let’s Make The Flag Block – Mini Block Monday #24

I’m back with another patriotic mini quilt block – The Flag! This is probably the easiest of all our 4th of July themed blocks with only four little Half Square Triangles and lots of skinny strips. Very fast to put together just in time to celebrate American Independence Day!

Do you know what helps me the most? Sharing the video! Please share this video with your quilting friends, or even consider including the photos in your guild newsletter. I would LOVE that!

Looking for a pattern for The Flag quilt block? It’s all in the video! I’m trying something new with these Mini Block Monday videos and including all the information in the video itself. Just hit “pause” when you need to and write down the pieces to cut.

Is that just not your thing? Here’s a snapshot of the patchwork pieces to get you started:

The Flag Mini Quilt Block Piecing Instructions

This block is pieced with just 4  Half Square Triangles which I pieced from two rectangles using the 4-at-a-Time Half Square Triangle Method. Watch the video to see how this method works, and how to trim your HSTs to measure 1 inch square.

Once you have your HSTs prepared, piece them together in a mini Friendship Star block that will measure 2 inches square (unfinished). Then piece the narrow strips together and your Flag block will come together in just three pieces at the end. Here’s what it looks like when you finish piecing The Flag Quilt Block:

Cute little block Leah. I’m thinking I need to make a couple and use them in my quilts or maybe in a potholder. Or maybe I should make all these mini blocks!
