Meet Kitchen!
Meet the newest member of our family! We were leaving my in-laws house last night and this little girl ran out in the road in front of our car. With no houses nearby and no owner in sight we figured she was abandoned and most likely going to get hit by a car if she stayed near the road. Josh scooped her up and we brought her home.
The first thing she did was jump right out of my arms and onto the kitchen counter, which gave me the inspiration for her name: kitchen, which Josh later changed to Kitchenette when we realized she was a girl.
I’m not really sure how old she is, and she’s definitely not litter box trained, so this is going to be an adventure. Despite the mess I had to clean up this morning, I’m totally in love with this little sweetie!
Update – After a more thorough test and many readers clued me in, I realized that she is in fact HE and is now renamed Kitchen! I’m guessing he’s about 6 weeks old, and already proving to be a handy escape artist. Kitchen is going to keep me on my toes, that’s for sure.

So happy she found a forever home! Mine likes to sit behind my sewing machine. I finally compromised for her with a chair in my sewing room with a quilt on it so she has something to snuggle up in. Good luck and great name.
She looks 6 to 8 weeks though it is hard to tell from the picture. Barely old enough to leave mom. Litter box training should be easy once she feels at home. Getting her to use a scratching post and not your furniture, well good luck. She has a sweet face.

what a cute little cat!!! Red female cats are really rare. Normally they are really fast learning things. She will get to use the litter box for sure!
Hope she behaves better than mine! One of my little cuties grabbed a pin out of my fabric, as I was pinning and ate it. Needless to say, I have gotten to know my vet very well. Make sure to get her checked out with the vet too. They were able to help with my kitties ages and make sure they had all their shots. I have always had cats, but the two I have now keep me on my toes! She sure is adorable, enjoy!

OMG she's adorable! Try putting her in the litterbox when you see her trying to dig on the floor, or she squads into position. It's also a good idea to keep multiple litterboxes on all floors of your house. She looks about 2 months old from the picture. Your vet will able to tell. Good luck to you, what a great save! 🙂
I would guess she's right around 6 weeks. So cute! Litter box training should be easy. Cats naturally like to use sand or soft dirt. Good luck!

Awwww…. she's precious! And you're wonderful for giving her a safe forever home! It's very unusual for an orange cat to be a girl, but they are usually very sweet natured and great pets. I've had a few orange boys in my life, and loved them every one!!!
Kitchenette is sure a sweetheart!! Congratulations on such a wonderful new addition to your family – I don't think there is anything much cuter than an orange kitty!!
P.S. I receive a daily newsletter on pets and the one today said that orange cats are typically males and it's rare to find an orange female – all of the orange cats I've had have over the years have all been males, which I really didn't think about until I read this article….
And the adventure begins! Thanks for giving this little one a second chance. You will be surprised at how fast she learns the litter box. And you will be equally surprised (or maybe not) at how fast she learns to lay down on a quilt top the instant you put it on the table to quilt!
He looks like an angel, but a little bandit as well. I am thinking that he was not left all alone, but maybe with his mother and brothers and sisters? Maybe you should go back and see if there are a whole family… I know that here in Denmark we have had a couple or more episodes where a catfamily was left in a box in the wood. Please go back and check if there are more kittens left there.. I don't know if you have an animal shelter where you live, but maybe they can help you? Kitchen is such a wonderful and unique name! Love it. I've found boy cats are much more loving than girl cats anyway so you are lucky! Welcome to an awesome family kitchen! You'll be ready for neutering in a few more weeks.

I am very fond of orange kittens. I have one and my daughter has one. Thank you for giving this little guy a home. After he learns where he is supposed to go, you will never regret taking him in!
What a sweetie–we used to have a calico named Schumee (actually Clara Schumann as we are musicians) and she litter trained in a few days. Cats are really smart–once they know what you want they perform–except when they don't want to lol..best wishes HUgs, Julierose
Kitchen is adorable! I found that having a safe room is always best. In that room is the food and water dishes, along with the litter box. I also had to train one to go in the litter box just by placing her in there and teaching her how to use her front paws to dig. She caught on right away. Usually the mother teaches this to her kits but if Kitchen has not been around mama long he is not going to know. Do get him to a vet right away. If he has been living on the fields its more likely he will have worms. Don't freak its common. If you do start to see what looks like rice in his poop, those are the worms. As far as training, cats are like kids. It will be like having another kid in the house. Best wishes for the new addition, and I look forward to seeing more of Kitchen in my news feed.

Red tabby males (Morris cats…remember Morris of 9 Lives?) are supposedly the most docile, sweet cats you can own. All the best to your new kitty and his wonderful peeps!
Kitchen is super cute, although it's true that orange cats are usually male I have owned 2 female orange cats in the past. I'm sure kitchen will settle down to using the dirt tray and sleeping in the most comfortable place usually the ironing or sewing have lots of fun quilty hugs
