Wild Quilting
It’s Wednesday and time to show you what’s on my sewing machine right now:
Yep, this is the first version of Express Your Love we quilted together starting in January. I put aside this black wholecloth for awhile and now I’m ready to pull it out and finish the hair section.
What is this exactly? I call it Textured Applique and it’s basically free form stitching strips while intentionally creating pleats, ripples, and twists in your fabric. In other words: WILD QUILTING!
Lol. I woke up this morning with the words from the book The Last Wild Witch echoing through my head “and they let a little wildness inside…” I guess I’m needing a bit of wildness today to loosen up and let go.
And really this is the perfect way to finish off this quilt! Love should flow freely and wildly in this quilt. It’s not perfect or precise. In the words of Tracy Chapman: uncouth, unchained, and unrestrained.
What I love the most about this is it’s never really done. You can always add more fabric, thread, yarn, beads. Whatever you want you can add! It’s like hugs, the more you get, the happier you will be.
So I’m off to twist, fold, pleat, stitch, and tear more fabric for this quilt. By the end she’s going to have some WILD green hair!
Let’s go quilt,
Leah Day
It would be super fun to use a product called Texture Magic for the hair pieces.
Lets go wild baby! It looks wonderful….
This is so cool. I love it love it love it!
It is amazing what's in your brain when you wake up, it can set the mood for the day. This is unbelievable cool I want to try it.
