FMQ Friday – Clean It Up!

It’s Friday and I know I should be quilting, but instead I’m launching a full scale attack on the clutter in my house. My guest bedroom is the worst:

I shouldn’t even call this room the guest bedroom anymore because there’s no room for anyone to stay here!

My #1 goal is to Find a Place for EVERYTHING. I get bogged down with clutter because it doesn’t have a place to go, and then feel stressed because I can’t find what I need. I’ve pulled out my trusty label maker and a box of trash bags and I’m going to get busy with my War on Clutter today!

I’ve also decided that Duchess Reigns needs some time on the wall. I’m tired of pushing pushing pushing through this quilt and I think a break of just sitting and looking at her would do me some good.

So what are you up to? Just finishing a project or quilting through the meat of it? Whatever you’re quilting make sure to link it up!

Simple rules for the FMQ Friday link up:

1. Link up with a post that features something about Free Motion Quilting (FMQ).
2. Somewhere in your post, you must link back here, or you can just post the FMQF button in your sidebar.
3. Comment on at least a few of the other FMQF links. Share your love of free motion quilting and make this weekly link up a fun way to connect.

Let’s go quilt!

i have just spend the last 6 months cleaning out my house and around the farm…i have inherited lots of "stuff"…i live in my parents house which we bought from them…my father brought all his "stuff" and my grandfather's "stuff" to his new farm…so my advice to you as you declutter is keep it only if it fits one of the two following categories…beauty or function…keep it if it serves no function but is beautiful…or…keep it if it is functional but ugly..
next in the future get rid of 3 things everyday…
    soon it will be clean
next enjoy the purge…it can be so freeing as "stuff" carries weight on our shoulders
next enjoy the day and your family

I love your guest bedroom! I've always wanted a window seat in my house, but a window bed with built in bookcases, to die for! Thanks for all you do to help us with our FMQg.

  3. Leah, this quilt is utterly amazing. I am in awe when I look at it.

Hi Leah, I can so relate to your clutter problem, especially in my sewing room. My number 1 problem is also that a lot of stuff doesn't have a fixed storage space and keeps being moved around. I am working on that now, trying to get everything more organized. I am doing it step by step though, first tackling my sewing patterns, then my books, then my fabrics, unfinished projects, etc., and hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll have everything sorted out. Good luck on your decluttering!

  5. Your duchess is looking gorgeous! And I know what you mean about the guest room – best thing I had to do about six weeks ago was clear mine out as…yep, we had guests coming! Got a lot of quilting stash resorted and shelves cleared out I can tell you!! Very satisfying, and now it looks like a bedroom (all quilt stash is hidden in tubs under the beds!) Have a good weekend!

Keeping up with the clutter is hard!

I homeschool our three kids in a small cottage and keeping clutter to a minimum is vital. Books, paper, 'craft projects', yarn bits, ugh.

Hanging your quilt for a bit might just refresh you and lead to even better (amazing) work!
