FMQ Friday – My Brain has the Munchies

It’s Friday and time to link up with whatever you’ve free motion quilted this week! Today I’m back on the machine after several days spent sawing, hammering, and vacuuming. I must say it’s nice to just sit and get lost in Duchess Reigns again:

A quilt like this is one part pleasure, one part intense boredom. I’m literally sitting and stitching the same design for 30 minutes or more and it’s an effort to stay focused and not start thinking about the long list of other things I could / should be doing instead.

Like dyeing fabric, cutting fabric, washing dishes, organizing all the junk on my cutting table, putting away clothes, building that IKEA cabinet…as you can see, my brain has been busy today reminding me about all the things I could be doing instead of enjoying my quilting time.

So what’s the best thing to do? Turn on an audio book and drown out the noise. I’m off to find the right book so my brain will go munch on the story rather than on my guilt button.

Now what have you quilted this week? Simple rules for the FMQ Friday link up:

1. Link up with a post that features something about Free Motion Quilting (FMQ).
2. Somewhere in your post, you must link back here, or you can just post the FMQF button in your sidebar.
3. Comment on at least a few of the other FMQF links. Share your love of free motion quilting and make this weekly link up a fun way to connect!

Let’s go quilt,

  1. I love to listen to the Song of Fire and Ice series while I quilt! 🙂

Actually, from the photo, it looks like your sewing machine kind of has the munchies, lol.

I have quilted nothing this week, nor the week before, or before that…BUT! I got my new machine and soon, very soon, I will find a flat surface somewhere here in my Dad's house to put my machine and I will quilt til the cows come home! (Can I say? I am a tad jealous of you quilting while your mind wanders…)

Watching this design come alive has been super motivating!

The most addictive audiobook I've come across in a while is James S.A. Corey's Leviathan Wakes (if you don't mind that it can get a bit gross).

I got my new Janome 8200 on Thursday. Waiting for the table to come in so I won't be FMQing seriously until then but I spent today going through the manual and testing out the controls and the feet and just generally trying to bond with "the puppy."

OMG it makes my Janome MC 10000 look like a toy, it's SO MUCH bigger, which in my world is much better.

So far, it's very well behaved and it just has a lot of little features that I appreciate–like the better lighting, the thread cutter, and the ability to take off or change the needle plate without a screwdriver.

I did test out the FMQ foot (the same one I have on my 10000–I bought it as soon as it came out and it's a dream. I do notice that the open-toe and closed toe feet are different than on my earlier model (they are slightly larger and slightly different in shape) so it'll be fun to see if I think they sew any differently.
