Flower Skeleton Quilting Design #243

It has been a super busy last few days with getting inventory and taxes sorted out. I’m getting super excited about our trip to Myrtle Beach Quilt Party in a few weeks and I definitely want all my ducks in a row before we go!

So now that most of the craziness has passed, let’s get back to the project. Here’s a fun, center filled design that mixes straight lines with curves for a cool effect:

I really love these flower filler designs! It’s amazing what you can come up with just by combining shapes and stitching from the center.

I still have my vase wall hanging hanging on the design wall ready to be quilted, but I’m having a hard time just picking 3 flower designs to use! Should I resort to enni minni miney mo?

Inspiration – While stitching this design, I can remember thinking “What does a flower skeleton look like?” So if a flower was a like an animal body and had a skeleton of bones like we do, what would it look like? There are probably millions of ways to interpret this idea, but Skeleton Flower was the first thing that popped into my head!

Difficulty Level – Advanced. This design does involved a lot of travel stitching and echoing. Just take your time and stitch carefully and it’s sure to look terrific!

Design Family – Center Fill. This design starts in the center, then radiates out with the zigzaggy lines. After all of those lines have been stitched, you then go back and stitch the curving lines in between.

Directional Texture – Center Focused. You really can miss how this design just pulls your eyes right into the center. To increase this effect, try keeping your curved lines close together towards the center and gradually spread them apart the further you get.

Suggestions for Use – This design will work great in place of any flower applique design or could look beautiful stitched in the center of a block.
