Super Thank You!
Imagine I’m giving you all the biggest, warmest, friendliest hug! Super thank you to everyone who read and commented or emailed me yesterday.
I’d already laughed at my own silliness, picked myself up, and resolved to start fresh, but the wonderful advice, commiseration, and general butt kicking really helped me get my act together!
Honestly, after posting yesterday morning I was really considering throwing in the towel on the whole beginner project, but instead I cleaned up my act, created a much better outline for the DVD to follow, and restarted this morning with a fresh perspective.
I appreciate what everyone said – how it doesn’t matter if I don’t look super professional and how it might even be better that way!
This helped me to think outside of the perfect frames and angles I’d been using and I found 3 new places to shoot that really look awesome. Best of all, I didn’t have to move my tables again, much to Josh’s relief.
I slammed through the whole first part of the dvd this morning and will hopefully film the rest this afternoon. At this rate this DVD will be done by the end of the week and definitely launched by the end of January.
It just goes to show that sometimes problems are only in our minds, not really based in reality at all. I’m (hopefully) never going to forget this lesson again.
By the way, I think I’ve finally settled on a title: Free Motion Basics with Leah Day. Whatcha think?
I’m not going to post a design today, but instead get back to shooting my next segment. Who knew I had so much to say about batting?
Let’s go quilt!
Leah Day
Perfect title. Short and sweet. The info you pass on in the video is what counts. Keep it going!
I am really looking forwrd to this DVD!!! As I have said before, I have not done much quilting, and this is so much fun to watch when I come to you blog, I just can't imagaine how much fun it will be with you beside me as I try this in my sewing room…… I can listen, try and try again till I get comfortable and able… and that will only happen with practice. So I thank-you for doing this. No, I did not comment yesterday, but I sure thought about you. And I am glad you have such a great support that you managed to laugh and re-think it another way. It is going to be a great thing to share – and I can hardly wait to get my copy!!!!
I like the title for the DVD. Simple and to the point.
Leah – remember you have more than an army of wannabe FMQ'ers but a regiment of online 'friends' – you want the truth that's what we are here for – trust us your dvd will be stunning and we are ALL looking forward to receiving it in due course – take care and pace yourself – and give yourself to have some fun quilting time for yourself and your next exhibition project.
I like the title – clear and straight to the point. Can't wait for your DVD! Your blog has made me get over my free-motion fear!
Leah,
I'll be one of the first in line to purchase your new DVD. You have given me the push to not be afraid and tackle FM quilting again. I can't wait for the DVD!
You probably get this double-meaning all the time, but how about for a title: "A Day of Free-Motion Machine Quilting Basics."
I would include the word quilting in your DVD title. That way if someone searches for it, it'll be more likely to come up. If you had to use one word to describe your DVD, I'm guessing quilting would be it. I know it kind of seems too obvious to more experienced FMQers, but I wouldn't want to leave it out.
YEA! Would hate to have to disappoint the people I told about the DVD and are awaiting it's availability 🙂
Good for you! You do a great blog, and I look forward to learning more!
Great Title Leah…you are so motivated!
Leah
great simple to the point title, looking forward to it.
Happy Australia day I am busy watching the Australian open
glad you got your zing back look after yourself

I agree that "quilting" should be in the title, so that a search will find you. I didn't get to comment on the other thread, cause I was in the middle of a melt-down of my own, LOL. But, Leah, please remember that most of us are not professionals and we need good clear instructions, not Eleanor Burns level tech work. Your videos help me feel more empowered to try, and that's worth everything.
I tend to agree with Emma: 'quilting' should be a part of the title, for search'n'sale reasons 🙂
Otherwise: BRAVO!!
The title is great-straight to the point. Keep going girl, I for one can't wait for the DVD
Leah,
I would rather buy a beginner DVD from someone who isn't that far away from being a beginner (5 years ago, right), than from a seasoned quilting veteran of 20 years in the industry. Your ideas and thoughts are still fresh, as you remember not too long ago, your trials, tribulations, and successes. What better person to create this beginner project, than you. Your talent is immense! Take off the pressure, and basque in the process of creativity spiced up with the process of sharing knowledge.
Nancy Sue and Toddler Davis 🙂
Leah,
You are genious. You make us fearless. I tell all my wannabe free motion quilters about your site. Keep up the good work. We love you. Thanks for sharing your talent.
