Finding the silver lining

Clouds Quilting Design

Yep, I can find the silver lining, right between these stitched clouds!

Thank you to everyone that commented yesterday to help me find the silver lining. You guys are awesome! Really, you’re just totally awesome.

Here’s a comment from a quilter named Brenda that really helped me start turning my attitude around:

Do not think of this in a bad way!! Real easy to do that, but try to find what is the good part of this whole thing – you wanted to make improvements and do some changes, now you can!!!

This is going to be the best DVD on the market!! What has this taught you??? (I hate that question!!!) But really, this is not the disaster you could think it is – find the good in it.

And, yes, take yourself to bed and rest, rest, and rest some more!!!! Get better!!! That is the most important thing to do right now. so, take the whole weekend and baby yourself and get rid of this flu!!!!

You’re totally right! Here I was feeling really sorry for myself, lamenting on the lost data, videos, and photos of James, and suddenly I realized that this might actually work out BETTER to NOT have all that stuff.

Of course, I hate to lose all the photos of my kid, losing the original filler videos might be a good thing.

I can already see an improvement from having lost the edited segments from the DVD. Because I’m starting over from scratch, I’m finding that there is a lot of stuff I could edit out, which means more time for more information.

The only segment that I lost completely was the one on Basting, which I had hated anyway. I had really wanted to re-shoot it, but kept thinking “Nah, it’s good enough. Just leave it.

Now that I’ve lost it, I have no choice but to create this segment again, this time from a new and better perspective.

So there’s always a silver lining. It’s just a matter of FINDING it!

Losing the videos for Volume 3, 4, and 5 dvds might also be a blessing in disguise.

Do we really even NEED volumes 3, 4, and 5? Maybe instead of focusing on the videos I should instead focus on the workbooks?

As I’m finding with this blog, my business, and life in general, there are a million choices and none of them are wrong. The trick is not getting stuck in any particular mental box and instead just to always keep moving forward.

So let’s look forward to a new day tomorrow with a fresh, positive perspective!

Let’s go quilt,

I've been following the loss of your hard drive and the aftermath. It was a loss, but the next version will be better. Regardless of how you eventually present the information, quilters like me will be glad to get it. Meanwhile, rest, get better and know that I'm out here pulling for you.

As the girl in the Progressive ad says, "That's the spirit!" When I read Brenda's post, I knew I couldn't have said it any better. I've lived a long time, and more often than not, things that I thought were disasters at the time turned out to be blessings in disguise. You'll get through this, and you'll have the best DVD ever!

Now rest up, take the weekend off, spend some time with your family, and get better. We'll be here when you get back.

And don't just take time off now, take time off …. whole days…. every week and just leave us to our own devices. We'll still be hanging around after you have a day off with those special people in your life.

Hey Leah, I've been following this blog from day one, but I've never commented (I'm a wallflower, LOL!) but I'm compelled to tell you, WAY TO GO!! Keep looking to that silver lining; your positive attitude is an inspiration! 🙂

When you said you dropped it on the floor, do you mean the real floor, as in hard wood floors or carpet or even a cement patio? Or is it some analogy that I don't get? I find it hard to believe that you can't get back pictures of your family. Try contacting the manufacturer of the external drive and seeing what they suggeset. Are these things really that fragile? Regarding the quilting videos, you can reshoot them or not, but at least you have You Tube to help remind you what was # 87, and so forth. AND obviously you aren't very good at resting so I recommend equal parts strong hot herbal tea and bourbon and a babysitter – or husbandsitter as the case may be. Let nothing afright thee, this too shall pass! Thank you for all you do for us, whom you've never even met!

Ah man! So sorry to hear about your computer. My family lost almost an entire photo history in Katrina, so I know a bit of what you're going through. Of all the things we lost those photos were the hardest to deal with. I now keep back-ups everywhere. Your relatives may have extras of your family. Ask them!

It'll drive you crazy to dwell on things you can't change though, so yes, move forward, and be sure to take care of yourself. I'm sure the stress had something to do with your getting sick, that and having a young child (BTDT). Get better!!!
