Quilt Show Haul
Ahhh…you can hear the collective sigh of relief from all the quilters of the Foothills Quilters Guild here in Shelby, NC. It was a terrific show with many gorgeous quilts.
The funny thing about quilt shows that you attend for several days straight is that you can lose track of everything you’re accumulating. I came home thinking “I didn’t buy much fabric” only to dump out more than 10 yards from various bags and purses!
So here’s my latest haul:
Going from the left to right I’ve collected:
- 16 Vintage blocks from our guild’s boutique. I don’t know who donated them, but they’re going to make an awesome quilt.
- Upper fabric are batik fat quarters and 1/2 yards from the Quilter’s Gallery.
- More fat quarters and Micron Pigma Pens from Schoolhouse Quilts.
- 6″ and 4″ squares and luggage tag found in the guild boutique. In case you haven’t caught on yet, our guild boutique was outstanding this year! It was like a quilt store all of it’s own.Guild boutiques are so important because they help to increase the revenue generated by the show. Our boutique chairwoman did a great job, but so did all the members that cut fabric, made pillows, journal covers, coasters, quilts, jackets, aprons, and donated used magazines and books.
- Ribbons – Honorable Mention for The Scarlet Letter, Best in Show, Best Machine Quilting, and 1st Place Art Quilt for Release Your Light.
- Border fabric and more 1/2 yards from the Quilter’s Gallery.
I have no clue what I’m going to do with all the new fabrics, but isn’t that the fun of buying it?
I have (finally) realized that the best fabrics that work for video demonstrations are very plain, solid color fabrics in dark colors like black, purple, blue, green, and red.
I figure it takes around 50 days to really get a handle on how to do something really well, and while the videos have been turning out great so far, just wait until you start seeing the new ones, especially the extended versions soon to come on the DVD!
Now let’s go quilt (or drool over more fabric!)

Well, look at this, another comment on the next day – I have been drooling over your show quilts…. with ribbons! But the real drool is the explaination that you have thought out and taken the time to share with us. I have learned soooo much in these posts. Actually have a desire to do some of my own machine quilting ….

Many congratulations on the haul of ribbons – and well deserved! I am so enjoying your posts, especially the fact that you are a young'un (well, at least compared to me!) and doing such great work. Quilting is alive!!
