29. Quilt a Disappearing 9 Patch with Circles & Spirals

Whew! After the long 4th of July weekend, fireworks, great food, and lots of fun with family it’s time to get back to quilting our Disappearing 9 Patch blocks. Today’s design is a funky combination of square spirals and small circles:

Yes, all the circles in this block are a bit annoying to mark individually, so I shared an easier way to mark them using a grid in the video. You’re also welcome to change this design up too. I hid a lot of mistakes in my block by filling a circle with a spiral shape. See what I mean in this video:

Yep, this is a pretty complicated design, but it will give you loads of practice at free motion quilting circle shapes. Once you master this shape, so many new, beautiful designs will be open to you.

But also don’t hesitate to change the design if you’d prefer to quilt this block differently. Josh took one look at this block and decided he was definitely NOT going to quilt all those circles! Swing back by tomorrow to see his take on this design.
