Upcoming Treats for Quiltsters
Isn’t it amazing that we’re almost into October?!
October is always my favorite month of the year because of my birthday (yes, I will be officially 26 years old), fall weather, and Halloween.
So in light of our upcoming festivities I’ve decided to let you in on some treats coming everyone by the end of the month!
Today is day 46 of this project and I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response from quilters all over the world. Thank you to everyone who has supported the project by passing word along to your friends, forum members, yahoo groups, and blog readers!
I appreciate it more than you could ever know and you guys are really keeping me going with the project. Any time I get down in the dumps I just think about everyone waiting for the next design and I can’t help but get excited myself!
Originally I was planning on waiting until the end of the project to publish books and DVDs of the designs. Now I’m starting to realize just how many 365 really is – IT’S HUGE!
So yesterday I started going back through the videos and designs and began editing to create a downloadble design workbook.
This will be a digital book you can download instantly onto your computer and print out. I like to make patterns and books available this way to help everyone save on shipping costs.
The first book will be a volume of designs 1 – 20 with 4 inch hand drawn graphs that will allow you to practice drawing the designs before you quilt them. These graphs will also be very helpful for picking just the right filler design for any place on your quilt.
Of course a design workbook would not be complete without a DVD to go with it!
I’m going back through all of the videos (thank god I saved them all!) and editing them again to create longer, more detailed instructions to help you master each design.

sounds like a wonderful plan. I have just started quilting out side the stippling box and venuring into different stitches. I couldn't have found your sight at a better time. I love the video as I am a more visual learner so it really helps. Keep up the great work.

I am trying to learn to FMQ as well. If you are going to do a DVD, it might be helpful to us newbies if your DVD were organized perhaps by level of difficulty, where one design builds upon another? I started kind of late and was going to go back through some of your "beginner" videos first. Karen

Thanks again Leah. I love looking at your designs and actually got the courage to try free motion yesterday. I was very suprised to find I actually enjoyed it. My stitching is not smooth enough to try a quilt yet but I will. I always thought this was something I could not do but watching your videos made me think I could. Thanks again
I too have been enjoying the daily dose of design and pattern. I have been trying to view past videos as time allows. very nice thing you are trying to do. I hope you have enough sales to make it all worth while. cw

Great idea. I like quiltluvers idea of organizing by difficulty level. I'm still trying to get the hang of a straight line 🙂

Hi Quiltluver and Carol – Those are both great ideas! I'll definitely go through the videos and make sure to organize them that way.
The one thing I would like all of you to keep in mind is that even with an advanced design, you can still master it even as a beginner.
Just make a quilt sandwich with a fat quarter and practice!
I wrote this in an email recently:
The more you practice, the better your lines will look. But if you don't practice and don't try, your lines will continue to suck forever! Really you have nothing to lose by trying.
I just don't want anyone to limit themselves or not try a design because I put the word "advanced" on it.

Okay, I just *LOVE!* your blog, and I really enjoy getting a new design every day. I've never tried free-hand machine quilting until I found your blog, and it's going "swimmingly"! I'm doing an okay job of FHM quilting, and I'm *really* enjoying it and having ideas of my own (though I have yet to try my own yet).
However… Do I *really* need to sign up for the newsletter? I check your blog *every* day (sometimes multiple times each day!). Is there really anything you can "give" me on a weekly basis that you haven't already given me on a daily basis?
Inquiring minds want to know. =-)
BTW, have I mentioned that I *LOVE* your blog?!? =-)
First, Happy Birthday from another October baby. lol I wish I was a baby and NO, I am not anywhere near the young age you are.
Second, I look forward to your blog everyday and can't wait to see what you come up with next.
I am AMAZED at your talent at such a YOUNG age and very incouraged by the ease in which you do each design. You do great work and sharing your talent and designs with fellow quilters is very, very appreciated.

I am thrilled and amazed by all your designs and a downloadable book with patterns and all that sounds so great. 40 is a good number too. I want to spend some time with many of these. I would love to see maybe it organized by level? like 40 total beginner fillers… as I am a total beginner and have so far avoided trying any of them becasue I feel like they all look so hard for me.
Hi Shebaduhkitty – I'm planning on organizing by difficulty level, but I'd like to encourage you to at least try drawing the advanced designs. They really aren't that hard and it'll give you good practice to try them!
