Learn to Quilt Contained Flame – #469
This design is a fun combination of two designs we’ve learned before: Sharp Stippling and Brain Coral. You start with a wiggly flame shape from Sharp Stippling, then echo around it with soft, curving lines like Brain Coral to create a flowing machine quilting design. Difficulty Level – Beginner – This design only requires a bit of travel stitching so that makes it easy for quilters of all skill levels to master. It will definitely be a big skill builder on echoing so if you’re needing to brush up on your echoing skills try quilting this design over a large space in your next quilt.
Design Family – Echoing – This design family is known for filling in quilts with a cluster effect – stitch a shape then echo it to expand it. By quilting in clusters like this, you can fill the spaces of your quilts very organically.
Where to Use this Design – Contained Flame will work in all areas of your quilt and on any scale (size). You can expand the starting shape and echoes to quilt bed quilts, or you can shrink down the space between the lines and quilt much more densely.
I think it will make a terrific landscape quilting design to quilt as the sky or ocean. It has just the right amount of flow to make it work perfectly as an All-Over bed quilting design too!
