Day 170 – Sixes Swirl

I realized today that I better get a move on if I want to make my May 12th deadline to get to the halfway point of this project!

Here’s another design playing with numbers. I managed to stitch the number 6 and not transpose it this time!

With my computer work nearly done for the day, I’m heading upstairs to quilt a few more designs and maybe a bit of my latest wholecloth quilt.

I made a mistake of quilting part of a quilt with the wrong color thread and had to rip stitches out for more than 4 hours last night. Ugh!

I finally got it finished this morning and plan to get back on it this afternoon. Hopefully we won’t have another thread color mistake like that again.

Difficulty Level – Intermediate. This design looks very similar to Swirling Water, but is stitched based on the number 6, so I think it should feel a bit more natural to most people.

Design Family – Pivoting. This is an interesting design type because you first create the foundation of the #6 shape, then fill it with your spiral, then echo and pivot around it.

Whew! That sounds complex! Really, it’s not that difficult, but it’s an interesting combination of many different elements and, best of all, it can work in just about any area of your quilt!

Directional Texture – All directions. This is one super swirly design, so use it where you want loads of movement and texture over your quilt.

Suggestions for Use – This design makes me think of water or swirling currents of air, so maybe use it for the water or air in a landscape quilt.
