Quilting Crown of Scraps on a New Style of Sit Down Longarm
I’m quilting my Crown of Scraps quilt block a second time this week and using a new style of sit down longarm to do it! The Q-Zone Hoop Frame can be set up low so you can sit and quilt. But this is so much easier than quilting on a typical sit down / table mounted longarm because the machine is moving! See what I mean in this video:
Click Here to check out this Q-Zone Frame and Qnique 14+ / 15R longarm. I can also set up this frame taller and stand and quilt too. Lately I’ve been building new skills for travel stitching and precision quilting so sitting down feels a bit easier for these finer movements.

Quilting on a New Style of Sit Down Longarm
I quilted my Crown of Scraps quilt block with a combination of Sharp Stippling and ruler quilting using the Slice quilting ruler. I love the effect of echo ditching the scrappy pieced border of this quilt block.
There is about 10 inches of quilting space with the Qnique 15R / 14+ on the Q-Zone Frame. This means I had to advance the quilt block twice through the frame in order to quilt the entire block and border. Make sure to watch the video to get an idea of what advancing a quilt through the hoop frame is like. The advantage of this style of frame is you can quilt any size of quilt and the frame is only 4 1/2 feet long!
With block 9 complete, we only have 3 blocks to go to finish our Friendship Sampler Quilts! Well, 4 blocks if you’re making a Queen or King! Come check out this project and see all the beautiful blocks you can piece and quilt with me.
Let’s go quilt,
Leah Day

How to Piece the Crown of Scraps Block
This looked fairly easy. I have been wanting a long arm machine but have not seen anyone sitting using one. I can’t stand for long periods so this would work for me. So this is a basic one?
Yes, this is a very basic setup. You will likely need to stand to shift your quilt through the frame, as I showed in this video, but while you’re quilting, you can sit and move the longarm over the frame. Dear Leah I have
Purchased a Grace 21 longarm. Now that I ve made this choice I am feeling that maybe I should have looked at the reviews. There are not any on the net. Would you please help me. Now that I’ve found you on u tube I
Wish I had made my purchase thru you. I have not
Gotten the computer part yet and it looks like I need the clamp you use on the rail
Please take a moment to answer me about your review on the 21
I’ve really loved my Qnique 21 so far. Make sure to orient your bottom carriage the right way with the rubber part towards the front of the machine. I experienced more vibration on the 21 than the 15 because I had my carriage turned around the wrong way!
