Day 276 – Eyeballs

Kids say the silliest things, and my son James is one of the silliest. He never says “I’ve got something in eye.” Nope, my kid needs to yell for all the world to hear “My EYEBALLS hurt!

I think he just likes saying Eyeballs because it’s a bit weird. I heard him say that the other day and decided to try to make this body part a new free motion design:

free motion quilting design eyeballs

This is a bit creepy, right? It reminds me of those Halloween games where you turn out all the lights and make food feel like dead body parts. The only thing I really remember is Eyeballs were always created with grapes. Kinda gross…

Difficulty Level – Intermediate. Eyeballs is really a combination of Double Pebble and Escargot. If you find yourself struggling with it, try stitching either of those designs first, then try Eyeballs again and it’s sure to be easier.

Design Family – Stacking. I love these designs because they fit together so perfectly and add such a nice texture to the surface of your quilts. Try quilting this really large and cover huge amounts of space with every pass, and try quilting it small and squishing it around tight and complex areas. It really will work anywhere!

Directional Texture – No Direction. Even though this design doesn’t have loads of flowing movement, it still packs a power punch of texture thanks to all the travel stitching and thread play. Definitely put it somewhere you want the thread to show off and stand out!

Suggestions for Use – I keep slowly creating fun designs that would look great combined together on a Halloween themed quilt. Stitch Eyeballs in a bowl shaped applique and surround that block with Cobwebs in the Corners. Sounds fun!

You could think of them as cinamon rolls if eyeballs creeps you out. ;D I think it's a really cute filler.

I had to laugh. Eyeballs is cute. Just wait until he's 10 and his favorite body part starts with "p". He he he he he he….
And no, I don't expect you to make a design out of that!

  4. How do I receive a notice when you update your blog? I thought I was, but I'm not receiving them.
