  1. P.S.
Forgot to say, I totally agree with your comments on shows and judges. I've had the highest mark possible and the lowest mark possible for the same quilt at the same show from different judges! I don't take it personally, but it is lovely to win. And I agree, the point is for your work to be seen – so I will carry on entering shows.

  2. Hi Leah,
Hilary Florence here. You left a comment on my blog a couple of days ago, but you are a 'no reply' blogger, so I couldn't get back to you – so I've come to your blog instead!
First, thanks so much for your kind words about Cosmic Split. I am really happy with how that quilt turned out.
The gold is a gold spandex fabric. I didn't think about painting! I tried about 6 different kinds of foil fabric. I live in a rural area of SW UK, so no quilt shop near. Finding the fabric on line was difficult because I couldn't judge the feel or the handle of the fabric before buying and metallic colour on line is very deceptive. I had a few surprises! The spandex was the best that I tried. It is stretchy – which wasn't too much of a problem, but it is a bit fragile. The first version I made split with the stitching.
Hope that was useful. I will definitely be doing more with gold fabric.

  3. It always looks so lovely, how awesome to think that every block has a different pattern!

Thanks so much for sharing this with me Hilary! I would never have thought of gold spandex, but sometimes you've just gotta use what works! What an amazing quilt and excellent finished result.

  5. Awesome!! I had a feeling something was off when I saw the phrase 'didn't win any' in your original post. Congratulations!!
