9. Piece a Rail Fence Block

It’s the start of another month and time to learn how to piece another block! Just in case you’re just joining the Building Blocks Quilt Along, you can find a post on Piecing Tips right here.

This month we’re piecing and quilting four fantastic rail fence blocks:

This is one of the easiest blocks we will piece this year because there’s no matching seams!

Back to the block, this really is the easiest block to piece! Just seam the four strips together!

After piecing, press the seam allowances open and mark your 8 inch square in the middle. You should have 4 strips all equal widths within this 8 inch square.

The only thing to be careful of is keeping the wider strips to the outside so we end up with the extra 1 inch space all around the outside edge.
