Day 197 – Funky Party Flower
We’re back for another More Fillers Monday after a wonderful holiday weekend!
But that doesn’t mean the party has to end. Let’s keep it going with a Funky Party Flower quilting design!
I’m kind of in shock. Yesterday I actually took a day off from the internet. I didn’t even turn on my computer!
I instead took the last two days to quilt like a demon on Shadow Self. I can officially say she is ALMOST done.
It’s the ALMOST that’s killing me though. I’m ready for her to be DONE!
This always happens when I reach the borders of a quilt. I know I should be kicking back and enjoying the ride, but borders are always the same thing over and over and it gets extremely monotonous.
With Shadow Self the borders are the rays that radiate out from the center. Right now I’m in the home stretch with only 3 1/2 rays left to quilt, and if I play my cards right I’ll be able to blast through them in the next 2 days.
Now enough about my obsessive compulsive speed quilting, let’s get back to Funky Party Flower!
Inspiration – This design is inspired by the silly party streamer designs you often see on party hats and invitations. You know, those curly q thingies?
Anyway, I thought about trying to capture them in a stitch. While this one didn’t turn out as perfect as I would have liked, I think this design has great potential for future variations!
Difficulty Level – Intermediate. This isn’t super difficult, but depending how how big and wild your curly ques get can make the other shapes hard to fit into the design.
Design Family – Center Fill. This design is worked from the center of your quilt to the outside, so it’s best place in open blocks or places where you’re ignoring the piecing or applique lines.
Directional Texture – Center focused. The center of the flower really focuses your attention, but if you wanted it to be less attention getting, you could always start with a single center circle instead of a cluster of pebbles.
Suggestions for Use – There are so many fun, funky Moda prints that would look terrific when stitched with this Funky Party Flower. If you have a charm pack or layer cake quilt sitting around try quilting it with this fun design!
