Day 100 – Matrix Maze
Can you believe that just four months ago we only had four main quilting designs?! Now we have 100 different designs to choose from!
And the greatest thing about all of these designs is the variation potential is limitless. Today’s design is a terrific example of this – this is just a variation of Matrix only with jagged lines.
It really makes a crazy maze that’s easy to get lost in!
I’m celebrating Day 100 by doing some furniture moving and studio rearranging.
While that may not seem like a celebratory thing to do, I’ve realized the need to move my quilting table and machine upstairs so I have more freedom to record videos anytime I want.
The good news is we’re going to have even more videos coming soon!
I’m planning to start a weekly video cast to share the latest projects I’m working on, plus tips on the basics like tension, thread choice, marking, and more. More videos, plus even more designs makes for a very happy new year coming in 2010.
Now, let’s get back to learning our 100th design:
Inspiration – Matrix is probably one of my favorite designs from the project so far. I was wondering what it would look like if we simply exchanged the curving lines for jagged lines.
What an amazing variation! Changing the lines made the texture twice as complex. I actually had to stop and stare at my lines a few times because I couldn’t remember which line I was echoing!
Design Family – Edge to Edge. Despite it’s complexity, this is actually a very easy design. If you can draw a zig-zaggy line, you can stitch Matrix Maze.
Difficulty Level – Intermediate. With this design, the distance from your needle to your previous line of stitching is pretty important. Try using the edge of your presser foot as a guide so you stay a standard 1/4 or 1/2″ away from your quilting lines.
Directional Texture – No Direction. This is a very flat, directionless design. When you see it from far away, you eye is not going to be drawn to the area at all.
Suggestions for Use – Matrix Maze will work just about anywhere! I think I might use this design in some holiday drink coasters and ornaments I’m working on. The possibilities really are limitless!
