I use Electric Quilt and have made a few of my designs. Mostly, it is fun to play with – dangerous for those who are easily distracted or procrastinate. I like that it gives yardage required for each fabric in your design, and the options are endless. You can also download the latest fabric lines to use in it.

I have had EQ for ages (about ten years, I think, I started out with EQ4), and I couldn't make a quilt without it. I just love it! It takes a little practice but is definitely worth the time and the money.

You mentioned that you are running out of space on your computer. Have you thought of putting these wonderful days of free motion quilting on a removeable hard drive? I put all my photo scans on the removeable hard drive and am very pleased with myself. Diamonds are a gals best friend so will practice this design A LOT.

I too use Electric Quilt and have for probably 12 years. I draw the blocks I want, layout the quilt, plan the borders. I don't use the patterns or yardage estimates, because I like to do my own for greater accuracy. It's true it takes time to learn and if you don't like to sit down with a manual I recommend a class with lab time. But it's very, very fun, color play!
