Background Quilting – Christmas Tree Quilt – Part 4

The final part to this Christmas Tree quilt has to finish with some background quilting. I decided to use Sharp Stippling, one of my favorite quilting designs, to fill in the background around the Christmas tree with soft movement and a navy blue color.

Quilting the Background of my Christmas Tree Quilt

The background of a wall-hanging quilt is always going to be the largest area to quilt and could be the most time consuming. I decided to quilt this area quickly with Sharp Stippling, stitched on a 1/4 inch scale.

Most quilters like to match thread, especially in areas like the background. I like to be able to see what I’m doing! That’s why I used navy blue thread which contrasted just enough so I could see what I was stitching.

I realized while working on this that I really need to get all of my feather blocks stitched first before I tackle any more background. I used Quilter’s Creative Touch 5 Pro to quilt two designs from my Maximized Feather Blocks collection. This stitching really needs to be done first so I can run the Sharp Stippling all around the feathers and not end up with overlapping designs in this area.

Check out my quilting system with the Qnique 21 and Continuum Frame. Yep, I still love this setup, even 5 years after building it! I’m thinking hard about breaking down my frame again and expanding it another 2 feet to be a 12 foot frame.

No, this Christmas Tree quilt is not available as a pattern. This is not a quilt along. This series is just a collection of videos to inspire you to play with many designs and techniques in your quilts. Enjoy!

Let’s go quilt,
