How to Piece a Solar Flares Quilt Block

Yes, it’s finally time to piece our Solar Flares block! This 6th block in the Machine Quilting Block Party is very fun to piece with just half square triangles and squares coming together to create a cute asymmetrical block:

While this block may look really simple, it can actually be pretty tricky to piece correctly. Learn how to construct it properly in this new video:

Did you notice how easy it is to flip around the pieces and have the triangles facing the opposite directions? Definitely take your time and pay attention to the block layout on page 5 of the pattern.

Another thing to watch out for is the quilting diagram. This is one month in particular that the diagram is not symmetrical so be really careful cutting and taping together the diagram to make sure the lines of the Spiral Illusion line up properly.

The great news is we’re going to quilt the Spiral Illusion design in the center of the block with a walking foot! Make sure to check back here next week to learn how to machine quilt this block step by step.
