Day 87 – Frog Eggs

I’ve certainly not exhausted my supply of inspiration for Pebbling combined designs. Here’s another one combining Pebbling and Stippling:
While Frog Eggs may not be the best name for this design, I couldn’t think what else this looked like!
Inspiration – I’m just about to start quilting my Snowflake quilt, which I’m super excited about since it’s designed as a “Quilt as you go” quilt. This means that each block will be quilted separately, then they will all be put together at the end to complete the quilt.
Because the quilting motifs I’ve designed are so complicated, I’m needing designs that work like Stippling: able to be fit into any area, versatile, and easy to maneuver.
You’d be surprised how hard it is to design a stitch even when you know exactly how you want it to move and work. It’s no wonder stippling is so popular, it’s about the most versatile design we have!
Difficulty Level – Intermediate. No, stippling is not easy, as I’ve said before. You might want to try using the ideas in Little Hands and Fingers or Alien Fingers to give you something to think about as you stitch this.
It definitely helps to have something more in mind other than “meander, meander, meander!”
Design Family – Independent. This is basically a combo of stippling and pebbling so it will work anywhere on your quilt. No matter how tight or complicated, you can always wiggle your stippling stitches to work in any area.
Directional Texture – No Direction. Stippling and Pebbling are both flat and don’t pull your eyes in any direction. However, pebbling is also very attention getting in comparison to Stippling, so make sure to keep your pebbled areas consistent so the texture doesn’t look weird.
Suggestions for Use – I’m thinking I will use frog eggs around some complicated quilting motifs and appliques. This could easily become the background of any quilt and provide loads of fun texture where ever you place it.

I like Frog's Eggs, but it looked like Tapioca Pudding to me, which we called Fish Eyes and Soap Suds when we were kids!

Looks sort of like paw prints in snow.. I'm also a biology person though, so I'm totally happy to go with frog eggs.
Oh, I really hope you eventually do an instructional Quilt-As-You-Go DVD, because I am so curious about how that works. Every explanation I've read thus far makes NO sense to me (but then again, nothing does until I've read it 12 times).
