Day 102 – Lemonade

We’re now heading into winter which means it’s the perfect time to start working on our springtime quilts!

Let’s spice things up with a citrus twist and quilt some lemonade into our quilts!

Today I’ve officially started filming my DVD for beginners. I’m not sure of a title yet for this DVD. Do you have any ideas? Update: The beginners DVD is now done. Click here for details.

It’s been slow going to start because of the kitchen remodel and not being able to find time where I can shoot without the sounds of drilling, hammering, and sawing in the background.

It seems like as soon as the work stops, my kid decides he wants to make a cameo appearance!

I finally decided to move my machine upstairs and create a small workstation just for filming in my office.

I’ve gotten everything setup today after many trips up and down the stairs and started quilting again.

It’s a small space, but with the way the tables are setup, I think I could easily quilt a full / queen sized quilt in this area.

Okay, back to Lemonade!

Inspiration – For some reason, my copies of Better Homes and Gardens magazine are one of the most inspiring things for new designs. Maybe it’s the combo of food and home decor, I’m not sure, but as soon as I saw a picture of a lemon wedge, I knew it had to be a new design!

Difficulty Level – Advanced. This design does require precision and careful stitching in order for your lemons to look recognizable.

My first attempt looked more like sea urchins than lemons, but with a little bit of practice, you’re sure to be able to stitch this design anywhere!

Design Family – Edge to Edge. The lemon wedges are stacked on top of one another and worked from one edge of your quilting space to another.

This design will work really well in open, uncomplicated areas, like the sashing areas of your quilt.

Directional Texture – 2 directions. Because the lemons are stitched in lines, your going to mostly see a horizontal or vertical texture with this design.

Suggestions for Use – Have you seen the awesome new fabrics Moda is coming out with this spring? They’re bright, bold, and extremely cheerful and this lemonade design would look terrific stitched in the sashing of any charm quilt.
