Day 114 – Sunshine

Super thank you to all the butt kicking comments for yesterday’s post!

It’s so easy to let all the “shoulds” and “have to’s” overwhelm my studio when really FUN should be the name of the game.

So today let’s learn a bright, fun, cheerful design called Sunshine!

I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling like the sun has taken a break these last few weeks. It’s COLD!

Still, I have to admit that I like freezing temperatures better than the heat. Just wait until June when the sun comes out again. I’ll be wishing for it to be this cold again!

Inspiration – Josh recently rented a very suspenseful, scary movie called Sunshine about a group of scientists that have to blow up the sun to restart it.

While I’m really not into suspenseful movies and basically sat on the edge of my seat the whole time, I did like the imagery they used with the sun. It was super scary and beautiful at the same time.

Difficulty Level – Intermediate. The suns are not particularly difficult to stitch, but you will need to be careful about your spacing and estimating the sizes of your center circle and rays.

If you need to – DRAW IT! It definitely makes for an easier quilting experience.

Filler Design Type – Edge to Edge. These sunshines are stitched in rows so this design will work really well in open, uncomplicated areas like sashing.

Directional Texture – All directions. Even though this design is formed in rows, the sunshines are so attention getting, they really have more of an all over texture.

Suggestions for Use – These sunshines would look so cheerful and cute stitched on a baby quilt or charm quilt.

If you’ve got a baby (or grandbaby) coming and you don’t know if it’s going to be a boy or a girl, maybe try making a unisex baby quilt with yellow and orange fabric and sunshines stitched all over it.
