How to Free Motion Quilt Love Bubbles! Design #505

This design name just makes me giggle – Love Bubbles! Yep, I’m getting a head start on February and Valentine’s Day with this heart-themed design. Not only is it a great texture, it covers your quilts quickly too!

Quick Links from this free motion quilting tutorial:

Click Here to learn more about my home sewing machine – This small, affordable sewing machine is quite a workhorse! I love the bright lights and ability to drop the needle down with a tap of the foot pedal.

Deluxe Foot Set – This set includes two styles of walking feet, a darning foot, and a ruler foot! These are the feet I use for machine quilting on my Eversewn machine.

Click Here to check out the Grace Qnique 15R – This longarm is perfect for hobby quilters because it’s smaller, less expensive than you think, and easy to learn. The best thing about a longarm is it’s so much faster and easier to move over your quilt. But yep, it does take practice to be able to control it and stitch precisely!

I have my Qnique set up on the Q-Zone Hoop Frame. This frame can be set up as a sit down or standing frame. You can also use your home sewing machine on this frame and upgrade to a longarm machine later. Click Here to see how that works.

This design is very similar to Pebble Ripples. Basically you stitch a cluster of shapes (in this case hearts) and then surround it with rows of echoes. That’s a great combination to make a very eye-catching free motion quilting texture.

Difficulty Level – Intermediate. Like Electric Pulse, this design includes both travel stitching and echoing and that can be tricky when you first start free motion quilting. But the only way to master any skill is to practice it. A lot! So put Love Bubbles over your whole next quilt and you’ll have plenty of practice with both techniques.

Design Family – Echoing. A simpler design to try from this family is Echo Shell. This is a simpler texture of half circle shapes that may be easier for you to quilt the first time.

Where to Quilt It? – I found Love Bubbles also wanted to expand dramatically on my quilts, even in the little square I stitched on my home sewing machine. So put this design to good use and use it as an All-Over free motion quilting design.

Let’s go quilt,
