Electric Pulse Machine Quilting Tutorial – Design #502
I’m feeling wired, so I guess it’s great that I’m quilting Electric Pulse today! Welcome back to Free Motion Friday! Each week I’m sharing new quilting designs and teaching you how to quilt both a home machine and a longarm frame. This will give you two different perspectives on how to quilt a design and lots of ideas for using it in your quilts.

Difficulty Level – Intermediate. Electric Pulse requires both travel stitching and echoing so I rate this at Intermediate because those skills do take a bit of practice to master. But that also means this would be a terrific design to help you practice those skills!
Design Family – Edge to Center. I quilted this from the edge of my quilting space into the center in a long row. Play around with how the triangles meet in the middle. You can nest the triangles together or have them touch point to point to create a diamond effect.
Where to Quilt It? – This quilting design is best suited for borders and sashing. Long, narrow spaces with ditches to stitch in on both sides work great! But if it’s a struggle to stay in the ditch, grab a ruler like the Ditcher to help you stay in the seamlines perfectly.
I found Electric Pulse was a perfect design for this narrow border. It would probably be best in a bigger border (6 inches and bigger) so the lines have more space to spread out. You can always quilt half of the design, or just empty triangles on the opposite side. Whatever works for the amount of quilting you need for your quilt!
