Quilting Rulers: Feathers, Circles, and a Ditcher

Earlier this week I released three ruler quilting videos in one day! Learn how to use our new Ditcher, Feather, and Circle rulers by watching the videos below. You can also Click Here to find all three rulers in the Quilting Shapes Ruler Kit!

Let’s begin with the Ditcher ruler in this quilting video:

Click Here to find the Ditcher Ruler. You’ll want the home machine thickness, which is 1/8-inch thick, only if you have a home sewing machine with a low shank foot. This is typically more inexpensive sewing machines like the Eversewn Sparrow 20.

Bigger machines like the Janome Horizon series, Juki-TL series, and similar machines will have a high / brand specific shank and these require the thicker (longarm) rulers. Newer Bernina machines (everything made after the 1630) should use the thicker rulers. All older Bernina machines will need the thinner rulers.

Special thanks to all sewing machine manufacturers for making this so confusing for everyone!!!

Quilting Feathers with Rulers

I can’t wait to show you how to use the 2-inch Feather Ruler to quilt perfect feather borders:

Click Here to find the Feather Ruler. I’ve had a lot of questions about using this ruler with a curving stem. YES, you can do this, but it needs to be a shallow curve made from the Mini Slide ruler. If you use a deeper curve, like from the Super Slide ruler, the depth of the curve will be too great for the Feather Ruler. It’s not impossible, but it will take more practice to quilt the feathers perfectly.

And YES! More tutorials on this are coming soon and on a home machine as well.

How to Quilt Circles and Scallops / Clamshells with Rulers

Finally, the Circle ruler which lets you quilt easy, gorgeous, and perfect circles and scallops or clamshells:

Click Here to find the 2-inch Circle Ruler. I designed this one with both the inside and outside curve on one ruler. I find I often prefer quilting around the outside curve, but most rulers are designed with only the inside curve. Kind of a geeky quilter thing, but I would bet if you test it, you will find one side of the ruler feels better to quilt around than the other!

Yes, there is definitely more tutorials needed for these three rulers. Be looking forward to more as soon as we finish the Friendship Sampler Quilt Along in the next two weeks.
