Longarm Quilting a Bears Claw Block

It’s time for our last quilting video for the Bears Claw quilt block! I decided to use my new Grace Qnique 21 longarm and quilt this block with zig-zaggy Zippling!

Quilting the Bears Claw Block with Zippling

I chose Zippling as the design for the border of the Bears Claw block. Zippling is an all-over quilting design so the Cruise setting for the Grace Qnique 21 was perfect. This is a stitch regulated setting that keeps the needle bouncing up and down, even if you aren’t moving the machine.

I decided to keep Zippling on a small scale because I’m leaving a lot of open spaces in the center of the block. Zippling as a zigzag design is ideal for dense quilting.

I had to be careful quilting into the center of the Bear’s Claw Block because the space between the “claws” was very narrow. I marked the design through that area so I could quilt on the marked line and easily bounce into, then back out of that space easily.

One thing I love about the Grace Qnique 21 is the sheer volume of space I have. I can quilt almost the entire block in one pass due to the 17 inches I have to quilt in. Click Here watch me take my first stitches on the Grace Qnique 21.

Remember, whether you’re stitching on a longarm, home machine, or a home machine mounted on a frame, the key is practice and getting to know both your machine and setup.

Let’s go quilt,
