Simple Straight Line Quilting Design
I know we’ve been overloaded with some heavy scrap piecing for both this block and last month’s Checkerboard Block.
I kept the quilting on this Scrap Overload block fairly simple by first echo ditching around the center background diamond shapes. Echo Ditching is a fun and easy technique to quilt with rulers. You just line up a straight edged ruler against the ditch line on the quilt. Using the ruler as a guide pressed against a 1/2-inch wide ruler foot, you will quilt exactly 1/4-inch away from the ditch.
After quilting around the center diamonds, I moved to the border and echoed the half square triangles around and around to create a zigzag design through this area. It was fast, easy, and added a nice open texture to a very scrappy block.
We’re going to have lots of fun to quilt on a longarm too so make sure to swing by next week to see a different take on quilting it!
Let’s go quilt,
