Rising to Unexpected Challenges, Quilting Podcast #92

It’s been a challenging week, but also wonderful in many ways. In this podcast, I’m loading a new quilt on my frame while I share about our unexpected trip to Florida over the weekend:

This past week, Josh’s grandmother, Betty, passed away at age 91. She was always a sweet, loving woman to me and I loved traveling to her house in Pensacola, Florida for summer trips and family get togethers.

We decided at the very last minute to attend her memorial and I’m so happy we did. It was a challenge to pack quickly and drive 8 hours, but in every way this felt like rising to the challenge life was throwing my way. I had a great time cooking breakfast for a house full of people, then making finger foods for after the memorial.

Grace and Gratitude

These are the two emotions I’m feeling right now. Rising to the challenge meant putting all my worries and emotions aside for four days. I focused only on making life easier for everyone else. It’s a small thing – cooking food, cleaning up, arranging nice dishes, but it made me feel good and I think it made everyone else feel good too.

I’m so thankful I run my own business and can choose to take off at the last minute if I need to. It’s amazing to have a husband that is willing and able to jump in the car with three hours notice. I’m so proud of my son, who was the greatest advocate for the trip and brought joy to everyone that came.

None of this was easy, but I’m so happy we rose to the challenge together. I think we’re all a bit stronger, a bit more gracious and appreciative for all the blessings we have. I know I certainly am.
