23. Free Motion Quilt Zigzags in a Pinwheel Block

Ready to quilt your first pinwheel quilt block? This week’s design is super fast and super easy – zigzags and lines, which really enhances the half square triangle shapes:

The best part about this quilting design is you can actually flow through this block with almost no travel stitching. You also don’t HAVE to stitch in the ditch of this block. There’s more than enough quilting to hold the block together, so if you’re not in the mood to ditch, feel free to skip it!

Just remember as you stitch your pinwheel block to watch out for that center section where all the seam allowances are overlapping. This area is super dense already, so try to avoid building up too much thread in this area.

This is the core reason why I press all seam allowances open – it reduces bulk in the seam allowances so you still can quilt into the center if you need to.
