Quilt Along #35: Goldilocks

It’s Quilt Along time and today we’re taking the design from last week, Flowing Lines, and filling those gaps with Stippling!

This is a beautiful design that will create a gorgeous texture on your quilts.  I’ve used this many times in goddess hair (hence the name Goldilocks), and the sashing (space between blocks) because it’s so easy to fit into and fill any narrow area.

Now as for quilting Goldilocks, first review last week’s design Flowing Lines.

Then review the basic steps to Stippling.

Once you feel pretty solid with both designs, putting them together should be no problem!

One question I know I’ll hear is about density.  Yes, in the video, the Stippling had to be quilted on a 1/4″ scale to fit into the gap areas nicely.

Personally I see this as a trade off – yes, the quilt will be a BIT stiff in those areas, but it will also be covered with a gorgeous texture!  The one makes up for the other in my opinion.

If you’re really against this idea, simply stitch the design BIGGER.  Make the gaps HUGE so the stippling that goes inside them can be HUGE and then there won’t be an issue with stiffness or density in your quilt at all!
