Day 351 – Cyber Echo

Last year I went to see the new Tron Legacy movie and left the theater buzzing with new designs. The graphic neon lights, slick black and silver surfaces, and awesome science fiction sets bounced around in my head and eventually inspired many designs including this Cyber Echo:

With Cyber Echo I’ve stitched the design almost as an outline of an invisible circle, but looking at it again, I wonder how this would look stitched as a foundational design…Hmmm…I think I’ll have to get back in the studio to play with that design potential today!

Difficulty Level – Intermediate. Cyber Echo is a slightly weird design because of how it starts with the outline of a lollipop shape. I found it a bit tricky sometimes to keep this specific shape in mind, so just take your time with each new shape stitched and it should quilt up easily.

Design Family – Echoing. This design family always starts with a simple shape, then you travel and echo that shape multiple times. The length of your travel stitching will always determine how far apart your lines of quilting will be so if you want this design to be nice and wide and soft, try stitching your echoes at least 1/2″ apart.

Directional Texture – All Directions. This design combines straight lines and sharp angles and large circular open spaces so the texture is always going to stand out boldly on the surface of your quilt.

Suggestions for Use – I really want to play with this design on a bigger scale! As I said in the video the large lollipop like shapes really seem to want to expand and take up more space. I think this would make for a great All-Over quilting design to stitch over the entire surface of your next quilt.
