Day 324 – Echo Feather Flower

What a beautiful weekend! The weather is getting crispy – just a bit chilly, but warm if you find a spot of sunshine. It’s the perfect weather to get back into the sewing room and spend lots of time quilting.

Speaking of quilting, here’s a pretty flower to brighten up your fall (or for those on the other side of the world – your spring!) A fun variation of any design is seeing if it can be made into a flower design. Let’s see what happens when we try this with Echo Feathers:

Difficulty Level – Advanced. A good place to start for quilting this design is Feather Flower. Get some practice stitching feathers as one single line, then try putting 4-5 of them together to create a flower shape.

Design Family – Center Fill. This design is worked from the center of your quilt to the outside, so it’s best placed in open blocks or spaces where you’re ignoring the piecing or applique lines.

Directional Texture – Center Focused. Again this is a situation where the center of the flower really matters for the overall design. If I stitch this out again, I’ll likely use a cluster of pebbles in the center because it will blend with the rest of the design a bit better than the larger single circle in this example.

Suggestions for Use – Here’s another great design to stitch in ornaments or a set of coasters for this holiday! At this rate, the hardest part about creating that project will be picking the designs to use.
