Leaf Filler Quilting Design Video #260
Today we’re trying a new design based on Tangled Snakes, but this time filled with lines to make a Leaf Filler quilting design!
I think I’ve stumbled across another design that can really be filled in a million ways! I’m looking forward to playing with this design and seeing all the many variations we can make simply by changing out what texture is stitched within the leaves.
Now let’s learn how to stitch this Leaf Filler quilting design in free motion:
Difficulty Level – Advanced. This can be pretty tricky when stitched small. Honestly I think Leaf Filler will be much easier if you try quilting it on a larger scale with a bit more space between the leaves. It’s something to try – you never know – it might end up being very easy for you to stitch!
Design Family – Branching. This design works a lot like McTavishing: first you branch out with the wiggly leaf shape, then go inside to fill it with the veins. Fill your space completely by wiggling more leaves together in many directions all over your quilting space.
Directional Texture – All Directions. This is a really gorgeous, moving texture! It’s the perfect design to stitch over green or brown fabric to create a really organic look.
Suggestions for Use – I can’t wait to use this design in the border of another Flower Bouquet quilt! The flowing leaves will be the perfect design to stitch in this area surrounding the big, bold flower shapes.
