Day 208 – Strange Flower

Ah! We’re finally back home and it’s More Fillers Monday so it’s time for a new filler design.

This is something kinda weird I came up with when playing with variations of Drunk Pointy Paisley. Really anything you do with that design turns out a bit different!

Today has been a busy chaotic mess of traveling home, getting unpacked, and quickly trying to restore order to a very disordered house.

There is a reason why I don’t travel very much or travel for long periods of time – I really don’t like it and I’m not good at it! I just like being home where everything has a place and I don’t have to search for my toothbrush in my sock drawer. Ugh!

Inspiration – I was wanting to play with more flower designs and came up with this weird one. The Drunk Pointy Paisley leaves add a lot of movement around the design and you can change out the center with anything you like: circles, spirals, or the pebbled circle you see in the photo.

Difficulty Level – Intermediate. If you simplify the center of this design it’s actually very easy! The flowing paisley leaves are very simple to stitch and can easily be expanded to fill lots of space with each pass. 

Design Family – Center Fill. This design is stitched from the center of your quilt to the outside so it will work best in the open, uncomplicated areas of your quilts.

Directional Texture – Center Focused. You really can’t ignore the center focused texture of this design. It acts like a bulls eye for your eyes so definitely use it where you want lots of attention!

Suggestions for Use – This is such a weird flower, I really think it needs a very plain, simple block to be stitched in. Maybe try a basic circle applique quilt and fill some of the circles with Strangle flower for a very interesting texture in simple shapes.
