Day 191 – Spiral Flowers

Today is More Fillers Monday and I have to ask: Is this month flying by for anyone else? I swear I blinked and it’s already the middle of June!

So let’s think back to the middle of April to a Paisley design called Spiral Petals. This was a really fun design and of course, if you put the petals together, you instantly get – a Spiral Flower!

free motion quilting | Leah DayToday is the first day of James’s summer camp so Josh and I woke up early to get him dressed, fed, and to preschool on time. I really like having James in some kind of program, even if it’s just two days a week because it keeps all of us on a steady schedule.

While he’s in class, I’m taking the day to clean my sewing room, quilt a bit, and probably take a nap before picking him up. I love having my Monday mornings back in style!

Inspiration – I really love paisley designs because they work in so many areas and are so versatile. They also cluster together to make awesome center fill flower designs!

Difficulty LevelIntermediate. This design is stitched from the center, which actually makes it a little easier to stitch. Simply travel around your center circle, adding more petals around the flower until your whole quilting space is filled.

Design Family – Center Fill. Place this design in an open block or a particularly large area of your quilt.

Directional Texture – Center Focused. This flower is a real show off no matter where you put it!

Suggestions for Use – One of these days I’ll get around to designing a quilt that mixes applique flowers with quilted flowers for a very interesting combination of fabric and thread. I already have a few blocks in mind and Spiral Flowers would definitely get a block all to itself.
